Epoxy resin sheen: ProJoint TITAN & V400-WT
It is expected that following application, ProJoint TITAN & V400-WT may highlight and enhance the natural surface colours and textures of the paving.
This is only a temporary effect as weathering and foot traffic accelerate its disappearance.Causes and Characteristics
The resin used in ProJoint TITAN & V400-WT is of high strength and resin content, which contributes to the finished jointing's superior vehicle weight tolerance. This quality and strength result in the sheen observed. During application, an epoxy emulsion is spread over the patio. As it cures, a thin layer of epoxy, a few microns thick, remains.
Minimizing the Sheen ProJoint
Pre-Grout Sealant: It is recommended to use ProJoint Pre-Grout sealant before jointing. This sealer provides a barrier on the stone, preventing the epoxy from adhering to the surface. Using this in conjunction with a
wet medium-soft brush at a 45-degree angle to the joints while jointing will eliminate any resin sheen after curing.
Weather: It is crucial to adhere to the tub's recommended surface temperature range of 3°C to 25°C. If the stone surface is too warm, particularly on darker slabs, the curing speed of the epoxy will increase and will create a challenge in keeping the pavers adequately wet. It is worth noting, if the air temperature is 20°C, the surface temp could be up to 40°C.
Preparation and Application: Ensure the paving is adequately prepared and soaked with water before brushing or squeegeeing over the surface. Use a wet medium-soft brush at a 45-degree angle to the joints to remove excess sand. Note that any sand left on the surface will not be easily removed once the product has cured. Weather conditions and precautions during inclement weather, it is crucial to cover the paving after application if rain is forecasted within 24 hours at 20 degrees, as colder weather will significantly delay curing. This precaution allows the epoxy to cure adequately in the joints and on the stone surface. Failure to do so risks the epoxy encountering excessive moisture at a critical curing stage, potentially causing a reaction known as amine bloom.
Has this permanently stained my paving?
No, the epoxy layer is temporary. The layer it forms will weather away in a few weeks or months if left to fade naturally.
Can you accelerate the weathering of the resin sheen/amine bloom?
Yes, although epoxy is highly chemical resistant, the resin sheen/amine bloom can be removed with a specialized product designed to eliminate resin jointing compound residues. One such product is ECOPROTEC – Joint Residue Remover -
